It seems hard to believe today is the one year anniversary of when American Airlines pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger successfully landed an Airbus A320 full of 155 passengers and five crew into the Hudson River in New York following a run-in with a flock of geese.
Many plane crashes have taken place in recent years, and many people lost their lives as a result. This particular incident on January 15, 2009 resulted in a happy ending with no fatalities for the passengers aboard Flight 1549...except for some unlucky geese who were flying at the wrong place at the wrong time.
Today, I was reading several of the one-year anniversary articles reminiscing on what is referred to as the "Miracle on the Hudson." The stories are many. From witnesses on the shores, to reaction from the passengers, January 15, 2009 will be an unforgettable day for thousands of people.
Ever since that day, the passengers of Flight 1549 have been like family. They gather every year to celebrate life and the second chance God gave them at living. Each of these "family members" have one thing in common, they all had a very close brush with death.
Lives were changed in drastic ways as a result of this potentially tragic event. Thankfully, the life-changing stories have been positive ones, each describing how life is not taken for granted and how the little details of life are appreciated.
One of the life-changing stories is unlike any others which have surfaced in the weeks/months following the event. Upon attending a six-month anniversary gathering of passengers aboard Flight 1549, Laura Zych and Ben Bostic met each other in person for the first time since the crash. Almost instantly, a relationship began to grow, and they are now on CNN describing how the incident changed their lives for the good.
