CoCoRaHs Station TN-SR-55 November 2009 Precipitation Summary

My first full month of submitting daily reports to CoCoRaHs is now complete, and the data received from the rain gauge has been fascinating to observe.

November was a good month to get started with CoCoRaHs in Tennessee because it was a very dry month. We had many days of sunshine and above-average temperatures. I did not keep a log of the daily temperatures, however doing so is in my immediate plans. Our average high temperature in Portland is 58°. According to the monthly summary from the Weather Channel, we experienced many days anywhere from the upper-50s to the lower 70s.

I was able to check the rain gauge on 22 of the 30 days in November. I left to go home for Thanksgiving break, resulting in submitting a 'multi-day accumulation report' when I returned.

I have been comparing my station data with that of TN-SR-41. The owner of TN-SR-41 got me started in CoCoRaHs in September, and it has been fascinating to see the difference in rainfall we have received at Highland Academy compared to TN-SR-41 located five or six miles away. As estimated, my station received .24" more rain in November than TN-SR-41. It would be interesting to research why this takes place.

Looking ahead to December, the weather is expected to turn considerably colder. A low pressure system pushing up from the Gulf Coast will be increasing our chances of rain on Wednesday. This low pressure system combined with an approaching cold front will cause the temperatures to plummet, resulting in the possibility of flurries on Thursday. Should be an active start to December. I will be leaving Highland for Christmas break on December 16, which will create a short month for submitting any data. I will be back online by January 4.

Nathan, welcome to CoCoRaHS. I go to the Highland church and I live in Westmoreland and I have been on CoCoRaHS since 2007. I am TN-SR-32 and I do a daily weather blog (which I refer to as the boringest blog in the world)where I record my weather. If you check out my blog and look at the entry for December 1, I summarize my November precipitation and temperatures and compare them with the past few years. If you believe in global warming, November was agood month, if you are a skeptic October will be more to your liking. Anyways, welcome to CoCoRaHS and it's good to have another station for me to compare with.
